New Redesign of my Blog
I am very happy to announce that I’ve finally finished my new WordPress theme for this site. I’ve been working on it on-and-off for the past couple of weeks and it has been finalized. If you see any bugs or any weird hiccups, please let me know.
Blog Features:
- Designed completely from scratch
- Theme is Sandbox based, heavily modified, which is a great foundation or framework for a WordPress theme
- 6 widget areas (1 side, 2 after post, 3 footer)
So, what do you think?
Updated My Portfolio
I just finished working on 2 projects and I thought I would be wise to list them in my portfolio page (check it out by clicking here!). I did 2 WordPress-based blogs, integrating their existing designs into a full-fledged WordPress theme. Also optimized the WP installations as well as configured/tweaked several plugins for SEO and Social Networking. The first one is the Clicker Blog, available at http://blog.clicker.tv. They haven’t launched yet so the don’t have any content as of yet. The second one I just finished is the blog for Indie Printing, available here http://blog.indieprinting.com. What do you think of the theme integration/designs?
Started a New Website, part I
I’ve been working on a couple of web projects lately and I feel quite proud of them so far. I want to start actively blogging and producing content again, and perhaps monetizing (read: make money) when and if the sites attract enough traffic. The first one, which I started about a month ago, was finished last nigh t (or early morning shall I say?). I was adjusting the theme, learning about WordPress’s custom fields, and finally adding content. Without further ado, introducing:
Julian Present Trailers. I love movie trailers, I hate when I miss them when I go to the movies. The problem is that I haven’t found a cool site that showcases trailers for upcoming movies in a decent way. Sure, you can watch movie trailers on Youtube or on a movie’s dedicated website, but who wants to do that? So, go ahead, bookmark it and tell your friends.
In the next part of this post, I will go through the process of starting this new site step by step, from purchasing the domain, to setting up WordPress.
Redesign Explained
As you can see if you are an old blog visitor, I’ve changed the appearance of things around here. This time, I didn’t create my own theme, I went the classic “buy a premium theme” route, and I’m quite happy with the results. My past experience with my creating my last two themes was very helpful; I learned a lot about the inner workings of WordPress, even though I didn’t create the theme completely from scratch, I went the Sandbox route (who starts any coding project now a days with out some sort of recycled code, anyway?).
I’ve started a new blog…here’s how.
I did it. I bought a nice domain name (did I?), I set up WordPress and a new theme and I’ve setup a new blog for my girlfriend. She’s a behavior therapist that works with autistic children and I thought that the premise of a blog from the perspective of a therapist would be interesting. There is quite an extensive network of autism-related blogs out there, but most are from the perspective of the parents of autistic children. Check out the site at http://autismchronicles.com. After setting up the new blog, I thought that the documenting the whole process of starting a new blog would be interesting, so here goes.
1. Found a subject matter. I think this is the most important step for anyone planning on starting out a new blog. I’ve seen many blogs out there without a defined subject matter, which I guess isn’t wrong, (more…)
