Upgrade from a 3G to 3GS Iphone for $200 NOW

We all know by now that Apple announced the iPhone 3GS, an upgrade to 3G (the S stands for speed) which will be available this Friday (June 19th). Its faster and takes videos (reviews here and here). They also announced the upgrade options which produced a lot of uproar amongst people who purchased an iPhone 3G; they are now required to pay $400 (or $500 or the 32GB) to do an early upgrade. These people that still have a year left on their contract and they still are upset because at&t won’t allow them to upgrade for the full subsidized amount of $200. Now, I don’t blame at&t, and they’ve even announced a 3 month grace period to try to appease some clients, but hey, they don’t need to lower the price even further; the demand is there.

So, let me let you in on a little tip on how to get a new iPhone 3GS for $200 (or less) if you have a regular 3G.

SELL YOUR OLD ONE!

Put it on Craigslist or eBay or just offer it to co-workers and friends. There are plenty of people who’d rather pay $200 for a used iPhone sans-contract, rather than $99 (which comes out More >

Cheap Security Certificates from Dreamhost

I’m a sucker for funny and informative newsletter and blog posts, and the latest blog post from Josh Jones, head of Dreamhost (great hosting – read more here) is both of these characteristics and it introduces a new product (or just a deeply discounted one) – $15 SSL certificates. After a long rant about how flawed internet security is (and our reliance on them SSL certs) he makes the announcement that Dreamhost will now offer 100% trusted and signed SSL certificates.

I’ve had to deal with SSL certificates in the past (it is definetely not easy to do) and now I can get them installed easier and cheaper than before. Again, Dreamhost will be my one-stop shop for hosting, domain registrations and future SSL certificates

Brand New Portfolio Page

I finally came around to completing my Portfolio page here on my blog/site. It is somewhat incomplete, there are some pages I’ve developed that aren’t there because:

  • a: They are perhaps NSFW
  • b: The sites were for start-ups that have gone under and I never took a screenshot of my work (bad mistake).

So, have a look at my portfolio, let me know what you think and if you want to hire me as a web developer, let me know via my contact form.

Why You Should Host with Dreamhost too

I’ve been using Dreamhost for over 4 years now, and even though they’ve had their ups and downs in the past, I strongly believe that they are the best in their category, reliable and inexpensive hosting. After reading so many horror studies of awful customer support, bad service and unreliable servers with other Hosts (HostGator, BlueHost, I’m thinking of you!) I think I’ve been really lucky to have Dreamhost as my host.

I’ve survived the time I hit the front page of Digg and the couple times I’ve gotten Stumbled-upon; their servers are very robust. I also enjoy their monthly newsletters, blog, and their uncluttered and friendly control panel. They are also upfront with any issues they have with servers, they have DreamhostStatus where you can check the status of their networks. Other webhosts are’t as open as Dreamhost. So, let me tell you why you should sign up and start hosting with Dreamhost.
